Sustainable Management of Natural Resources in Mozambique (SuMNatuRe)
SuMNatuRe is a joint project among the Eduardo Mondlane University, the University of Jyväskÿla, the University of Eastern Finland, and Unizambeze. The Project is part of the Higher Educational Institutions Institutional Cooperation Instrument (HEI ICI) programme funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland (MFA) and administered by the Centre for International Mobility (CIMO). The aim of this project is to enhance sustainable development and democracy in Mozambique by promoting HE and increasing the knowledge on sustainable land-use planning considering different aspects of impacts (ecological, social and economic). This is realized by providing easy-to-access courses for doctoral students and HEI staff members. Spreading information through courses, website and networking increases awareness for environmental issues and highlight the role of local people in land-use planning. This flow of information is planned to be continuous also after the end of the project as the participating students work in different organizations e.g. as university teachers, authorities or environmental consultants. The project also produces material in English and in Portuguese and this material is available for further use for HE in Mozambique.
